The property market in Turkey
The Turkish property market is witnessing the early stages of a massive boom triggered off by an important change in the law relating to the ownership of property by foreigners. This only happened at the end of 2002, but it has meant that prices have been rocketing ever since. As other Mediterranean countries rapidly become too expensive, it seems that all eyes are on Turkey. Notably, the huge Spanish property developers have started investigations into land and property purchase in Turkey as they seek to jump in right at the start and snap up as much land as possible.

The Turkish economy generally is attracting a massive amount of investment and interest from overseas as the government seek to allign their laws and policies with the rest of Europe in anticipation of full EU membership in the near future. Inflation is down from 90% only 5-6 years ago to 8% today. Tesco have just bought a large supermarket chain and 5 Turkish banks have been bought this year by the likes of HSBC and Citibank. Most European car makers already have huge manufacturing facilities in Turkey as do many electical goods manufacturers. |
